Slope Stability Assessment at Geotextile Container Seawall

Byron Bay

Bluecoast Consulting Engineers/Byron Shire Council

Coastal and Marine

Coastal erosion from storm surge adjacent to ‘The Wreck’ resulted dune instability and damage to the existing geotextile container seawall and foredune. With the First Sun Caravan Park positioned immediately above the foredune, LRC Geotechnical were engaged to undertake a slope stability assessment to evaluate both the current stability of the foredune and risk of further regression on the caravan park facility. A finite element analysis was undertaken and recommendation for designated exclusion zone and dune repair were undertaken. The geotechnical scope works of involved: Geotechnical investigation including borehole 4m depth, geotechnical mapping of dune scarps. Assessment of existing geotextile container seawall to determine extent of damage. Finite element analysis to assess the stability of existing foredune and recommend remediation of the dune. Reporting of geotechnical conditions, slope stability analysis and recommendations for repair of the seawall.
