Riverbanks

Following catastrophic flooding of the Wilsons River in Lismore in February 2022, a significant slope failure occurred within the western riverbank resulted in damage to a 60m section of levee bank. The landslip occurred immediately east of industrial building as part of the South Lismore CBD. LRC Geotechnical were engaged to complete geotechnical investigation and slope stability analysis to inform the design of restoration of the levee bank. The geotechnical scope included: Geotechnical investigation including borehole drilling to 20m depth. Laboratory analysis of encountered soils to ascertain engineering properties. Slope stability analysis using limit equilibrium SLOPE/W to report current FoS of existing site under a various flood conditions. Geotechnical reporting of results and preparation of concept designs for a slope reinstatement. Analysis and design recommendations were provided for three possible remediation options including a) reconstruction with the slope with engineered earthworks and geosynthetics and rock armouring, b) piled concrete retaining wall, c) MassBloc Graviti TM retaining system with supporting piles.
