Landslip Remediation for Oyster Lease Road

Brunswick Heads

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services

Infrastructure

Following major flooding in 2022, a landslip was identified along the northern riverbank of the Brunswick River, immediately adjacent to Oyster Lease Road. LRC Geotechnical was engaged to undertake a geotechnical investigation, landslide risk assessment, and reporting to inform the design of potential remediation measures. The investigation identified a shallow translational failure within the riverbank, with opportunities for remediation through a “soft engineering” approach incorporating anchored vegetative reinforcement matting. The scope of geotechnical services included: Coordination and management of traffic control operation to facilitate local road closure to allow for safe drilling operations. Geotechnical investigation with boreholes to 15 m to ascertain subsurface conditions and groundwaters. Detailed laboratory testing programme to determine the engineering properties of the underlying soils and rock materials. Slope stability assessment to evaluate potential for regressive landslip causing undermining or complete damage to Oyster Lease Road. Engineering discussion and presentation of possible landslip remediation options.
